Woman, 26, jailed for three months for her role in the Rotterdam riots
The first person to go through a fast track court hearing following the riots in Rotterdam on Friday night has been jailed for five months, two suspended, by magistrates.
Sharon M, who is 26 and from Spijkenisse, has also been banned from the centre of Rotterdam for a year and ordered to pay €1,000 for the damage caused to a police van.
The court said M, who has previous convictions for violence, admitted throwing stones at police, but said she had become swept up by events. ‘I am really sorry for what I did, and if I could turn back the clock, I certainly would,’ M is quoted as saying by broadcaster NOS.
In total, 49 people were arrested during and after Friday’s riots in Rotterdam, which sparked copycat trouble across the country.
