Families heading for the Sinterklaas parades in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht and Eindhoven on November 13 and 14 will not have to show a valid coronavirus pass to take part in the festivities, news website Nu.nl said on Friday.

Rotterdam had been planning to check QR codes but has now decided against it, Nu.nl said.

Prime minister Mark Rutte said last Tuesday that watching Sinterklaas processions would not require a valid coronavirus pass and the big cities have now confirmed that they will not introduce the requirement anyway.

In Amsterdam, Sinterklaas will arriving on the traditional steamboat and this year will do an extended – and unprecedented – tour of the canals so as many people as possible can see him.
