More than 5,000 new coronavirus cases, highest figure since July
A total of 5,223 new cases of coronavirus were reported to public health institute RIVM in the 24 hours to Friday morning, the highest number since late July.
Thursday’s figure is up 621 on Wednesday’s total, which was distorted by computer failings. The number of new infections is always higher on Wednesday and Thursday because of the weekend effect.
Nevertheless, the increase takes the average number of new infections to over 4,000 a day for the past seven days. That is up 37% on the previous week.
Hospital admission rates are virtually unchanged, the RIVM said. The Dutch infection rate is now 26.4 per 100,000 people.
