Dutch boxer Nouchka Fontijn has ended her career with a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics. Fontijn, who won silver in the 75 kilo category in Rio, lost to Lauren Price of Britain who now heads to the final.

Fontijn is now hanging up her gloves after boxing for 14 years. ‘When I think back, I do wonder if I would take up boxing again, or pick something with less baggage,’ she told broadcaster NOS. ‘It is a heavy sport. It has been great, all the places I have been and people I have met. But it’s now done. I am quite certain of that.’

Fontijn’s bronze is the first of several potential medals on Friday.

Later, the Dutch women’s hockey team take on Argentina in the final and Sifan Hassan is in action in the final of the 1,500 metres.

There is also medal potential on the cycling track with keirin champion Shanne Braspennincx,  Harrie Lavreysen and Jeffrey Hoogland in action in the sprint.
