People born in 1982 can sign up online for their coronavirus vaccines, health minister Hugo de Jonge announced on Thursday.

The rollout of vaccines was briefly paused on Wednesday to catch up after a week in which everyone in their forties became eligible for the vaccine.

People aged 40 and under will be offered the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine after the government decided to stop using the Janssen jab because of the small risk of blood clots.

The vaccine, partly produced in Leiden, is the only one that offers maximum protection with one dose and will be retained as an option for people who have difficulty making two appointments, such as offshore workers, military personnel and the homeless.

Sjaak de Gouw, director of the association of local health boards (GGZ GHOR) said he expected between 10% and 15% of people who had already been booked in for the Janssen vaccine to refuse the jab. They will be offered an alternative at a later date.

Vaccine appointments can be made online at coronatest.nl or by calling the national call centre on 0800 1351.
