Rotterdam, The Hague aim to host Tour de France Grand Départ
Rotterdam and The Hague are submitting a joint proposal to host the start of the Tour de France cycle race in 2024 or 2025.
The plan involves a ‘Grand Départ’ event in Rotterdam, followed by a formal stage from Rotterdam to The Hague. Rotterdam is putting €22m into the event, The Hague between €6m and €7m.
The Netherlands has hosted the ‘Grand Départ’ six times between 1954 and 2015, and no other country has done this more than France.
This year the tour starts in Brest, next year in Copenhagen and in 2021 in Bilbao in Spain.
