Decline in coronavirus infections slowing down: 5,615 new cases

Another 5,615 coronavirus infections were reported in the Netherlands on Wednesday, while patient numbers recorded a drop for the first time in four days.

The number of new cases was higher than on Tuesday but 7.7% below the figure from last Wednesday. The average figure for the last seven days is 5,462, but the downward trend appears to be slowing.

The latest figures show there are 2,388 people being treated in hospital for Covid-19, 62 fewer than on Monday. The number of patients in intensive care fell by four to 679.

Another 87 deaths were reported, bringing the total number of people who have died since the start of the outbreak to 13,249. In the last week an average 82 deaths have been recorded per day.

The number of nursing homes that has reported an infection in the last two weeks has come down to 787, from 845 a week ago.
