Six students living on campus at the Universiteit Twente have gone into isolation after testing positive for coronavirus.

The mini-outbreak in Enschede was confirmed on Monday evening by Twente’s regional health service (GGD). It is not known where the students, who all live in the Hogekamp building, contracted the virus.

The severity of their symptoms has not been disclosed, but GGD Twente has been tracing close contacts and asking them to go into quarantine.

Spokeswoman Astrid Boudrie said the authorities were set up to deal with local outbreaks and there was no cause for alarm. ‘This was always likely to happen. The virus is still with us. It’s our job now to trace infections as fast as possible.’
