Dutch coronavirus deaths and hospital admissions continue to decline
The official Dutch death toll from coronavirus rose by 43 on Monday to 4,518, while a further 65 people were admitted to hospital, the public health institute RIVM said in its daily update.
The true figures are likely to be higher because of a time lag in reporting and the results will be updated as they come in, the RIVM said.
The Financial Times said on Monday that the real death toll in the Netherlands could be as much as 42% higher, because of the number of unreported cases.
In total, mortality statistics show 122,000 deaths in excess of normal levels across 14 countries analysed by the FT.
If all the unreported deaths are due to coronavirus, the true death toll is closer to 6,200 up to April 26, the paper said.
