Driving home for Christmas: Chris Rea dominates Dutch airwaves
Chris Rea’s Driving Home for Christmas was the most played Christmas record on the radio last year, with 710 spins in December, broadcaster NOS reports.
Band Aid’s Do they know its Christmas was in second place on the list, followed by Wham’s Last Christmas, Mariah Carey’s All I want for Christmas is You and the Andy Williams classic It’s the most Wonderful Time of the Year.
‘There are lots of new Christmas hits… but these are the ones you will hear the most,’ DJ Gerard Ekdom told NOS. ‘It is pretty difficult to squeeze in between them.’
There were just two Dutch language records on last year’s list – Vrolijk Kerstfeest allemaal by Guus Meeuwis and Deze Kert ben ik bij jou, by Andre Hazes. But neither would appear to have much staying power and are both well down the rankings this year, NOS said.
For the best of both worlds’ you can always listen to Willeke Alberti singing the Chris Rea classic in Dutch.
