Royals pose for summer session in front of their new home
The Dutch royal family posed for traditional pre-summer holiday photos in the garden of their new home, Paleis Huis ten Bosch, on Friday.
The family moved to the palace in January after it had undergone a major renovation programme. It was lived in by king Willem-Alexander’s mother Beatrix until she abdicated in 2014.
The aim of the annual photo shoot is to stop photographers following the family while they are on holiday. The media code was established in 2005 to enable the young princesses to have as normal a life as possible but also extends to other members of the family.
In the code, journalists agreed not to take photographs of the royal family outside official engagements. In return, the family agreed to pose for photographs at twice-yearly sessions; once in the summer and once at the start of their skiing holiday.
School
Earlier in the day, the king and queen attended the school leaving festivities at their daughter Ariane’s primary school in Wassenaar and shared a photo on their Instagram page.
The photo was taken by the king, who said later he is extremely grateful that his daughter was able to enjoy a ‘normal’ time at primary school.
‘How great that the king and queen are standing together with all the other proud parents,’ one Instagram user wrote. ‘Good luck at secondary school, Ariane.’
Like her sisters, Amalia and Alexia, Ariane will attend the Christelijk Gymnasium Sorghvliet in The Hague after the summer break.
