Dutch state railway wins another concession in England
The international arm of Dutch state railway company NS has won another concession to operate train services in England.
Abellio, which already runs the Scottish train service and the East Anglia network, has won the contract to supply services in the East Midlands region, including trains from London St Pancras station to Leeds, Liverpool and Norwich.
The East Midlands network is currently in the hands of the Stagecoach group which had been excluded from bidding for the new contract. The new contract is due to begin on 18 August 2019 and will run for at least eight years.
Last year NS booked almost half its turnover in Britain and Germany. The company has four concessions in the UK and a workforce there of some 14,000.
