Rotterdam is booming as tourist number surge by 18% in five months
Tourism in Rotterdam is outpacing that in the rest of the country with tourist numbers 18% higher in the first five months of the year, according to broadcaster RTL.
In Amsterdam, the numbers were only 5.5% in the five-month period, while the national average increase was 6.6%.
‘Rotterdam has crossed a threshold, said Erik Braun, urban studies researcher at the port city’s Erasmus University. Tourists are discovering more parts of Rotterdam and it is now the second-largest city for overnight stays in the country, he added.
Thirteen new hotels have opened since 2010 and a similar number are under construction.
