Ajax to sign Erik ten Hag as new head coach from FC Utrecht
FC Utrecht has told broadcaster NOS that the appointment of Erik ten Hag as head coach at Amsterdam club Ajax has almost been finalised.
Ten Hag has a contract with Utrecht which runs until 2020 but has now agreed a 2.5 year deal with the Amsterdammers, the broadcaster said.
Ten Hag, who is 47, is being brought in to replace Marcel Keizer who was sacked last week. Alfred Schreuder is likely to be his assistant, Dutch media said.
FC Utrecht is Ten Hag’s first Eredivisie role. He started his career as an assistant coach at FC Twente and PSV before taking on Jupiler League side Go Ahead Eagles, who won promotion to the Eredivise that season.
Ten Hag then spent two seasons as an assistant at Bayern Munich before moving to FC Utrecht.
Ajax suspended head coach Marcel Keizer, assistant coach Hennie Spijkerman and personal trainer Dennis Bergkamp last week. The club said in a statement on Thursday it did not have enough confidence that the trio could achieve Ajax’ ambitions.
