Dutch police have arrested a French national in Rotterdam on suspicion of involvement in a terrorist attack in France, the public prosecution department said in a statement on Sunday evening.

Three other people were also arrested in Rotterdam. Two of them are men aged 43 and 47 with an Algerian background. The identity of the third has not yet been established, the public prosecution department said.

The arrests were made by members of a special police counter terrorism unit, according to broadcaster Nos. Police also seized ammunition, telephones, sim cards, money and drugs, broadcaster RTL news said.

The man, aged 32, was arrested on behalf of the French authorities. According to Nos, police had been observing the man since Friday and he was arrested after leaving his house on Sunday afternoon.

The public prosecution department says he will be deported to France. There are no signs an attack was being planned in the Netherlands, the department told the Telegraaf.

Precaution

Some 20 to 25 people living on the Mathenesserweg in the port city were ordered to leave their homes as a precaution, Nos said.

According to the Telegraaf, French media report the French national is Anis B, who had been in Syria with a man named as Reda Kriket. Kriket was arrested in Paris on Thursday on suspicion of preparing a terrorist attack.

According to the NRC, the three other men who were arrested on Sunday are part of a Dutch investigation and will not be deported to France.
