Danny Blind formally appointed new Oranje coach
Former international Danny Blind has been confirmed as the new coach of the Dutch national football team by the KNVB.
Blind, who is 53, replaces Guus Hiddink who stepped down after an unsuccessful 10 months in the job. Blind’s contract runs until 2018.
Blind was Hiddink’s assistant and assistant to Louis van Gaal, who took Oranje to third place in the 2014 World Cup. Ruud van Nistelrooy remains an assistant and a second assistant still has to be named.
Blind has only been head coach once before when he coached Ajax in the 2005/06 season and was then sacked.
His debut as coach will be on September 3 when Oranje take on Iceland in their crucial European championship qualifier. Oranje is currently third in group A.
Danny’s son Daley plays for Manchester United.
