Dutch royals pose for holiday pictures but Telegraaf is banned
The Telegraaf newspaper was banned from attending this year’s royal winter holiday photo session after publishing a picture of former queen Beatrix skiing.
The Dutch press have agreed to leave the family alone during their traditional break in Lech, Austria, in return for an informal photo session on the slopes. However, the Telegraaf broke with protocol on Saturday with an unauthorised picture of Beatrix.
This was an intrusion into the princess’s personal life, the state information service said.
The paper defended its actions, saying the photos could not be seen as anything other than a ‘warm tribute to the former queen’ who is still active for her age and an ‘example to her generation’. Beatrix, who abdicated in 2013, is 77.
