The Dutch women’s swimming team on Sunday won gold in the 4×50 metre freestyle at the short course world championships in Doha, Qatar, completing their hat trick in the free style relay events.

Earlier, the Dutch women won gold in the 4×100 and 4×200.

The 4×50 women’s team – Esmee Vermeulen, Maud van der Meer, Inge Dekker and Ranomi Kromowidjojo –  set a new world record in the 4×50 heats, completing the distance in 1.35.74 and shaving over a second of the previous world record, held by Denmark.

The Dutch women also set new world records in the other two free style relay events.

In addition, Kromowidjojo took gold in the 50 metres freestyle on Sunday. Femke Heemskerk won bronze in the 200 metres freestyle, to add to the golds she won in the 100 metres free and as part of the 4×200 team relay.

The successful last day took the Dutch team’s total to 12 medals, of which five were gold. The Netherlands was only represented in the women’s events but nevertheless ended up third in the medals table.
