Father jailed nine years for sending daughter to Sudan
A 43-year-old man has been jailed for a maximum nine years for kidnapping his daughter and sending her to Sudan, news agency ANP reports.
Arnhem appeal court ruled on Monday the man had kidnapped his four year old daughter and that efforts to get her back were only for show.
In 2008, a lower court had jailed him for five years, prompting a public prosecution department appeal.
The girl was four when she was sent to Sudan during a family holiday in Egypt to stay with relatives. The girl’s father has since claimed he has been unable to get her back.
However, the court found he had sabotaged efforts to bring the girl home by telling embassy officials it would not be desirable.
The girl is now thought to be living with his brother in Saudi Arabia.
