The College voor Zorgverzekeringen (health care insurance board) is an independent mediator between the government on one hand and health insurers, care-providers and citizens on the other. Its main tasks are to advise on funding and budgets, provide guidelines for new and existing legislation, and monitor government plans. It also recommends what should be covered by insurance policies. While health insurance in the Netherlands is administered by the private sector, the government decides what it should cover.
