Nearly half of people experience neighborhood nuisance

Almost half of Dutch people say that have experience social nuisance in their neighborhood, from noisy neighbors to the drug trade, according to new figures from the Dutch statistics office.

The CBS released its biennial Safety Monitor on Friday, which found that 42% of adults say they dealt with some type of anti-social behaviour near their homes during 2025.

The report looks at crime and safety issues across the country.

The largest number of complaints stem from loitering youth, which make up 26% of the reported problems. Issues with neighbors account for 20% of the concerns.

Overall problems with nuisance have risen in the past few years. Some 14% of people say they have experienced significant social nuisance in their neighborhood, up from 12% in 2021.

Those living in urban areas have the most problems. City residents report nearly four times the number of issues than non-urban dwellers.
