Volendam win promotion to the Eredivisie for the 11th time
A 1-0 win over the AZ reserve team has propelled FC Volendam back into the Eredivisie for the 11th time in the club’s history.
Volendam are now certain of promotion to the top flight league and, with an 11-point lead over number two Excelsior, are also set to take the first division title. The two teams meet this coming weekend.
There are now just four rounds left to play in the second-tier Dutch professional league before the summer break. Volendam were relegated to the first division last season.
In the Eredivisie, Ajax are also nearing title status, with a nine-point lead over PSV and five games still to play. Ajax next meet Utrecht on April 20.
