US woman wanted for murder arrested at Ter Apel asylum centre

An American woman wanted on suspicion of killing her ex-partner in the United States spent three weeks living at the Ter Apel refugee centre with her four-year-old daughter before being arrested, local broadcaster RTV Noord has reported.
Kendra Leigh Wilson (33) and her daughter were registered as asylum seekers by the immigration service IND and had been living at the centre under their own names, RTV Noord said.
Wilson was arrested this week, and her mother, Cynthia Wilson, was arrested at the end of March in connection with the same case.
The women are suspected of killing 29-year-old Connor Lloyd who was shot dead in the driveway of his home in South Carolina in August 2021. According to US media reports, Lloyd had previously been arrested for threatening Kendra Leigh Wilson in the lead-up to the killing. Other reports state the couple were involved in a bitter custody dispute.
It is not yet clear how Wilson was able to flee to the Netherlands and apply for asylum. RTV Noord reported that she may not have been listed on international wanted registers while US media speculate she may have come to the Netherlands to seek protection for her daughter.
Wilson is currently being held in custody in the Netherlands while the United States prepares an extradition request. According to US media, the child is now in the care of a foster family.
