More homes are worth over €1 million, most are in Amsterdam

The number of homes in the Netherlands valued at over €1 million rose by 13.5% last year to more than 223,000, according to new figures from housing data agency Calcasa.
The increase spans all types of housing, but in Amsterdam, 70% of homes worth more than €1 million are apartments, Calcasa said on Monday. In The Hague, 19% of €1 million-plus homes are flats, while in Delft the figure is 15%.
“More and more ‘normal’ homes are now worth more than €1 million,” Calcasa spokesman Lennart Rhee told the AD. “We used to think of a detached house when talking about homes in that price bracket, but now even simple apartments and terraced houses are reaching that level.”
The number of €1 million homes has increased by 243% in the past five years.
Although Amsterdam has the highest number of €1 million homes in absolute terms at 23,100, more than half of all residential properties in Bloemendaal and Laren are now valued at that level.
Amsterdam’s Keizersgracht has the most expensive property, followed by the Prinsengracht and Valeriusstraat. However, the leafy Konijnenlaan in Wassenaar remains the country’s most expensive street, with an average home value of €3.3 million.
