A 39-year-old man has been arrested in Willemstad in Curaçao on suspicion of having a leading role in the murder of crime reporter Peter R de Vries.

De Vries was gunned down on July 6, 2021, in the centre of Amsterdam. Six men have since been jailed for between 10 and 28 years for their role in the murder, while three others were found not guilty because of a lack of evidence.

Raily B, who was sentenced to 20 years in jail for a shooting at Hato airport in which two men died, is thought to have orchestrated the attack on De Vries by phone from his cell.

B is said to be a member of notorious street gang No Limit Soldiers (NLS), which originated in Curaçao and has been involved in drug smuggling, extortion, and killings, including that of local politician Helmin Wiels in 2013. He has been in jail on the island since 2014.

According to broadcaster NOS, B arrived in the Netherlands on a private jet early on Tuesday morning and was been taken to jail under heavy guard.
