The Dutch warn LGBT travellers about new rules in the US

The Dutch foreign affairs ministry has changed its official travel advice for members of the LGBTIQ+ community travelling to the US, warning them that “other laws and customs” now operate there.
The text was changed at some point on Tuesday, after previously stating that laws in the US affecting the community are “similar” to those in the Netherlands.
The advice now informs travellers that “a number of states have introduced local laws which may have negative consequences for LGBTIQ+ people, such as access to healthcare.”
A spokesman told RTL Nieuws that the change was not made due to any concrete incidents. The US as a whole remains “green”.
The website also points out that visa applications for the US now only include the options “male” and “female” for the question about an applicant’s sex. The ministry refers travellers to the US consulate in Amsterdam if they have any questions.
Germany earlier tightened its advice for travellers after several German citizens were detained and deported at US Customs — despite them having valid travel visas.
