Second blast in a month hits Netherlands’ largest shopping mall

The Netherlands’ largest shopping mall has been hit by two explosions outside its main entrance in the space of a month.
The latest blast happened at around 11.30pm on Sunday, damaging the main entrance between the Jumbo supermarket and sports retailer Daka at the shopping centre in Leidschendam, Zuid-Holland province.
The fire was quickly put out and nobody was injured, but the explosion blew out a window of the sports store and melted a plastic fence that had been put up following the previous incident on February 25.
Police were called after witnesses saw people around the entrance just before the blast happened. A spout from a jerrycan was recovered from the scene.
Nobody has been arrested in connection with either explosion. Police said after the first blast that they were looking for a man wearing dark clothing and a hooded top.
The Mall of the Netherlands was opened four years ago by shopping centre firm Westfield. The 117,000 square metre complex replaced the Leidsenhage mall, which had stood since 1971.
