A 51-year-old man has been arrested in Sweden in connection with a cold case in Rotterdam dating back to 2003.

The suspect is a Libyan national, and his alleged victim was from Tunisia. Despite an investigation at the time, no one was arrested for the crime.

Sixteen years later, in 2019, police found a DNA match with a suspect in the Swedish DNA database. However, the suspect could not be found, although his details were added to international wanted lists.

He has since been arrested in Sweden and extradited to the Netherlands, where on Monday he was remanded in custody for 14 days.

Police say they cannot provide any further information about the case or the new investigation at this time.
