Dutch start world speed skating championships with two golds

Dutch speed skaters kicked off the World Championships in Hamar, Norway, on Thursday night with two gold medals, one silver, and a bronze.
Joy Beune won gold in the 3,000 metres, holding off home favourite Ragne Wiklund, while Dutch skater Merel Conijn took the bronze.
“I really wanted this one,” Beune said after the race. She is tipped for two more golds during the competition, in the 1,500 metres and the team pursuit.
The Dutch women also won the team sprint, while the men were beaten by China into the silver medal position.
The World Championships continue on Friday evening with the team pursuit and the women’s and men’s 500 metres.
