Dutch draw 2-2 against Spain in Nations League first leg

A late equaliser in extra time left the Netherlands with a 2-2 draw against Spain in the first leg of their Nations League quarter-final.
Nico Williams opened the scoring for Spain, the current European champions, nine minutes in, with Cody Gakpo levelling the match 28 minutes into the game.
A minute into the second half, Tijjani Reijnders made it 2-1, and the Dutch continued to dominate the pitch.
Jorrel Hato was sent off in the 82nd minute after a red card, reducing the Dutch to 10 men in the final stage of the game. Mikel Merino then managed to pull one back for Spain in injury time, leaving both sides with everything to play for in Sunday’s second leg in Valencia, Spain.
Coach Ronald Koeman told Ziggo after the game that he did not think the Netherlands deserved to concede the late goal.
“But you know when you play with ten men, it’s going to be difficult,” he said. “The way we played, the way we fought, that was very good. We dared to take the game to Spain. We were the better team.”
