Denzel Dumfries has been ruled out of the Netherlands’ Nations League quarter-final against Spain this week after picking up an injury with Internazionale at the weekend.

The experienced right-back was taken off with a hamstring strain during his club’s Serie A win at Atalanta on Sunday.

National team coach Ronald Koeman has called up Ajax’s 22-year-old defender Youri Baas, who has established himself in the first team under Francesco Farioli, to the 24-man squad.

Mats Wieffer of Brighton & Hove Albion has also been given a late call-up after Frenkie de Jong missed Barcelona’s weekend match against Atletico Madrid with stomach problems.

Wieffer himself only recently returned to action after limping off against West Ham United in December.

Spain will be without Barcelona midfielder Marc Casadó and central defender Iñigo Martínez for the two-legged clash. The first leg is in Rotterdam on Thursday, with the return in Valencia on Sunday.
