Crime rate stable but more gun-related incidents, says CBS

Dutch police registered 812,000 crimes last year, virtually unchanged from 2023 and the continuation of a stable crime rate that began in 2018, national statistics agency CBS said on Tuesday.
However, the number of gun and other weapon-related crimes was up 24% over the 10 years since 2014, the CBS said.
The number of burglaries fell slightly to 22,000, compared with 71,000 10 years ago. The police also recorded 78,000 violent crimes, including sexual assaults. This is up slightly on 2023 but again well down on the 2014 total of 100,000.
Reported muggings were down from 5,500 in 2014 to 2,800 last year, while armed robberies fell from 1,300 to 500.
Drug-related crime was virtually unchanged from 10 years ago, with 15,300 reported incidents.
Nationwide, police registered 45 crimes per 1,000 people, a slight drop on 2023 as the population grew. However, in Amsterdam, the figure was double that, and in Rotterdam and Eindhoven, police registered 80 crimes for every 1,000 residents.
The Telegraaf said at the end of last year 133 people were murdered in the Netherlands last year, with 19 violent deaths recorded in the capital.
