A couple from Brabant have died in a collision between a taxi and a pick-up truck in Egypt, the Dutch foreign ministry has confirmed.

The 55-year-old man and 54-year-old woman were involved in the crash in the beach resort of Sharm El-Sheikh on Friday, in which two local people from the Red Sea area also died.

RTL Nieuws reported that the taxi was on its way to the airport when the incident happened, but the ministry has not confirmed which vehicles the victims were in.

It has not been disclosed where in Noord-Brabant the couple came from.

Local media reported that one of the Dutch tourists suffered a fractured skull. The public prosecution service will carry out an investigation after their bodies were transported to the local moratorium.
