The three men arrested in connection with the huge fire in the centre of Arnhem in the early hours of last Thursday morning were not specifically targeting the SoLow shop, the public prosecution department said on Tuesday.

There is no evidence that the store where the fire started was a target, the department said, but it has not given any further details about the motive because this could “damage the investigation”.

The three men, aged 30, 41 and 57, will appear in court on Wednesday for a remand hearing. They were arrested on Saturday.

In total, 10 buildings were destroyed in the fire, and some 30 flats above the shops were left uninhabitable.

NOS reported on Monday that the oldest of the suspects lived locally and is a known troublemaker.

Dutch media reported earlier that the same investment company owned the SoLow store and a furniture warehouse destroyed in a major fire earlier last week.
