Ajax claimed a comfortable 2-0 win away against Brussels club Union Saint-Gilloise, with 16-year-old Jorthy Mokio scoring the second goal. Mokio, who made his first-team debut last weekend, is now the youngest player to score for a Dutch team in European competition.

“It’s only the beginning,” he told reporters after the game.

AZ Alkmaar dominated Turkish league leaders Galatasaray with a 4-1 home victory, putting them in a strong position for next week’s return leg. Meanwhile, FC Twente capitalised on an extra-time penalty to secure a 2-1 win over Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt.

The three victories, combined with PSV’s 1-0 win over AC Milan on Wednesday, have strengthened the Netherlands’ lead over Portugal in UEFA’s coefficient rankings.

Holding sixth place ensures two direct spots in the Champions League group stage and a third team in the preliminary rounds.
