Scotland 1-2 Netherlands: Oranje grind out Nations League win

The Netherlands claimed their first win of the Nations League campaign as they recovered from going a goal behind to beat Scotland 2-1 in Glasgow.
Oranje were strong favourites going into the match, having drawn 2-2 with Germany in their opening group game last Friday, but it was the underdogs who took the lead after 34 minutes.
The Dutch defenders failed to clear a corner and when the ball came back into the penalty area it landed at the feet of Emma Lawton, whose shot gave Daphne van Domselaar no chance.
Scotland could have gone two ahead just before half-time when Lauren Davison’s cross found Kirsty Hanson unmarked in front of goal, but she was unable to steer the ball past Van Domselaar.
The Dutch equalised 10 minutes into the second half when Lineth Beerensteyn, scorer of both goals against Germany, dribbled her way past three defenders before toe-poking the ball beneath Lee Gibson, who was far the busier of the two goalkeepers.
Ten minutes later Beerensteyn found Vivianne Miedema on the left and the striker’s pullback was turned in by Chastity Grant for the winner.
Coach Andries Jonker said his players had made the match more difficult than it needed to be. “We had seven or eight good chances in the first half and should have scored more.
“It wasn’t a great game. It was tense for the whole match and we couldn’t settle into our game.”
The result leaves the Dutch second in League A Group 1 with four points, behind Germany on goal difference. The Germans beat Austria 4-1 in Tuesday’s other group match.
