PSV 3-1 Juventus (agg 4-3): Flamingo fires PSV into last 16

PSV Eindhoven joined Feyenoord in the last 16 of the Champions League with a famous victory over Italian giants Juventus in the Philips Stadium.
Down 2-1 from the first leg, Peter Bosz’s side twice levelled the aggregate score as they found their cutting edge in the second half, with Croatian veteran Ivan Perisic twice doing the damage on the right-hand side.
Defender Ryan Flamingo scored the winner nine minutes into extra time when he was first to react in a goalmouth scramble. PSV will now play either Internazionale or Arsenal in the next round.
PSV made a bright start but were unable to find a way through the tightly marshalled Juve defence, despite the industrious efforts of Noa Lang.
A testing cross from the left wing was calmly chested down by Andrea Cambiaso into the arms of goalkeeper Michele di Gregorio, and when Lang ran into the penalty area on the right side he was shepherded over the goal-line by Lloyd Kelly.
The clearest chances came at the other end, as Cambiaso tested Walter Benitez with a shot before the goalkeeper did just enough to force Kolo Muani to shoot wide after the Frenchman had been put clear by Teun Koopmeiners.
Direct approach
PSV went for a more direct approach in the second half as Perisic tried to thread the ball through a sea of legs with the home side’s first shot on target, but Gregorio held it comfortably.
But in the 53rd minute the Croatian, who equalised in the first leg in Turin, found the net with a brilliant strike. Mauro Junior released Lang down the left and the winger hit an early diagonal pass into the path of Perisic, who tipped up the ball with his first touch before firing low across Gregorio into the corner.
The Croatian had another effort soon afterwards as PSV pressed for a third, but Juventus struck back minutes later. Timothy Weah’s rasping strike from outside the area was initially disallowed after Kelly appeared to head a free-kick back to the striker from an offside position, but replays showed PSV defender Oliver Boscagli had the decisive touch.
But PSV were not to be denied and 10 minutes later Perisic found space on the right again and played in a low cross that squirmed between Luuk de Jong and a defender before falling in front of Ismael Saibari, who beat Di Gregorio from close range.
De Jong had a chance to turn the tie in PSV’s favour shortly afterwards but was unable to keep his head on target, before Lang twice drew good saves from Di Gregorio as the home side finished stronger.
Bakayoko the key
Saibari again went close early in the first extra period, while Juventus substitute Nicolo Savona was lucky to stay on the pitch after seeing yellow for a crunching tackle on De Jong.
The breakthrough came when Perisic’s replacement on the right, Johan Bakayoko, found space in the corner of the penalty area and played in a low cross that Federico Gatti was unable to steer behind for a corner.
Di Gregorio could only palm the ball out into the path of Flamingo, who prodded the ball home for his second Champions League goal of the season.
Saibari had an outstanding chance to make it 4-1 when he was unable to steer his shot around Gregorio from close range, while at the other end substitute Dusan Vlahovic saw his shot come back off the post.
Khépren Thuram had the best chance for Juventus as the Italians pressed for a goal that would level the aggregate scores, while at the other end Guus Til spurned a chance to seal the tie when he was put clean through on goal, only to shoot straight at Di Gregorio.
