Dutch rail maintenance company ProRail has warned there will be major disruption on the railways this year because at least 400 separate projects have to be carried out in the next 11 months.
The around-the-clock disruption will affect travellers, people living close to the railway network, and companies, ProRail said. Major maintenance work in Germany will also have an impact in the Netherlands.
The 400 projects represent the maximum which can be worked on given staffing capacity, a spokesman said. “It can be done, but it does present major challenges.”
The work will be carried out at all times of day and night, at weekends and during busy periods, ProRail said.
