The police arrested two teenage girls earlier this week for assaulting two people on the Rotterdam metro in January.

The girls, both from Rotterdam, are aged 12 and 14. The assault took place around 11 pm on the metro line Oosterflank- Kralingse Zoom.

The victims, a 57-year-old woman and her friend whose age was not released, were being harassed by a group of teenagers, including the two girls.

When one of the women used her phone to take photos and attempted to call police, the two girls attacked them and beat and kicked them until they lost consciousness.

The photos of the girls were later shown on local crime show Bureau Rijnmond where they were recognised by their parents who reported them to police.

The 12-year-old is at home but under curfew. The 14-year-old is still in custody pending the investigation.
