Philips cuts more jobs in the Netherlands in R&D shake-up

Medical technology company Philips is cutting a further 90 jobs through a reorganisation of its innovation and strategy department, affecting workforces in Eindhoven, Best and Amsterdam.

The company said it wanted to focus more on specific growth areas and that data and artificial intelligence are now priorities.

“We are further simplifying our organisational model as part of our three-year plan,” a spokesman told news agency ANP. “The aim is to be closer to the market, be more adaptable and more competitive.”

Staff affected by the latest job cuts will be helped to find other work and it is unclear if there will be any compulsory redundancies, ANP said.

The company said two years ago, when it announced an earlier reorganisation, that it is continuing to invest in innovation locally. Some €700 million of of the €1.7 billion the company spends on R&D is in the Netherlands, Philips said.
