The Dutch government has reached an agreement with energy companies and grid operators to extend an emergency fund aimed at helping low-income households struggling with high energy bills, the AD reported on Friday.
Soaring gas prices, which are now reaching the level of the previous price ceiling, are pressuring low income families and, the AD said, the government has agreed to extend the energy emergency fund for a further year.
The government will contribute €60 million, with additional funding coming from energy companies and grid operators.
Over the past two years, over 282,000 households applied for assistance through the fund, with 63% of applications approved. In total, €110 million has been distributed to support low-income households.
