Convicted Dutch drugs criminal Marco Ebben was shot dead in an underground car park in Mexico City on Thursday, Mexican media have confirmed.
Ebben (32), who is on Europe’s most wanted list, was sentenced to seven years in jail for smuggling 400 kilos of cocaine from Brazil to the Netherlands, hidden in a consignment of pineapples in 2019.
His father, a notorious criminal from Schiedam, was sentenced to 11 years for bribing a customs official in the same trial.
Both men had disappeared from the police radar by then. After living in Dubai, Russia, Italy and Turkey Marco Ebben reportedly joined Mexican drugs gang Los Mayos, part of the Cártel de Sinaloa, the El Diario de Mexico said.
Ebben, who faked his own death twice to escape from his enemies and evade capture, was on his way to his armored car when he was shot 15 times. Fake identity papers were found beside his body, the paper reported.
