Code yellow warning as mist halts dozens of flights at Schiphol
Thick mist has caused the cancellation of dozens of flights at Schiphol and Eindhoven airports and the KNMI weather bureau has issued a code yellow weather warning for most of the country.
In some places visibility is down to 200 metres, the KNMI said.
The problems for road users are likely to remain until around 11 am but the knock on impact on flights will last longer.
Travellers are advised to check first with their airline, which is responsible for deciding whether or not to fly. Schiphol processes some 1,200 take-offs and landings a day.
Once the mist has lifted it will remain overcast and dry for the rest of the day, the KNMI said. The rest of the week and next weekend will be a mix of sunshine and cloud, with temperatures no higher than 4° or 5° during the day, and light frosts at night.
