Police in The Hague say they now suspect the explosion which killed six people early on Saturday morning was targeted at the bridal shop on the ground floor of the apartment complex.

Three people have been arrested in connection with the investigation and police said on Tuesday they did not rule out more arrests.

Forensic experts were still at the scene on Wednesday to gather evidence, but the actual cause of the explosion has not yet been made public.

“We have been trained to look at the very smallest details and differences at the crime scene, even at a site as large as this,” police forensic expert Mandy Groenewegen told broadcaster NOS.

The police are also looking for people who have more information about a dark blue Toyota Yaris which may be the car seen driving away at high speed shortly after the blast. They are also interested in a champagne-coloured Kia Ceed Station.

The police also want to hear from anyone who noticed anything unusual in the vicinity of the bridal shop in the days leading up to the blast or on the night itself.

In total, 19 homes were damaged, four of them completely, in the blast. The bridal shop itself was flattened.
