Speed cameras to be rolled out in 30km zones across the country
Speed cameras are to be installed in 30 km/h zones around the country after a pilot scheme in Amsterdam proved a success.
The public prosecution service (OM) said the trial of four cameras on Stadhouderskade had proved successful in enforcing the lower speed limit, which was extended last year to cover 80% of the city.
Other major cities have also increased the number of residential streets with 30 km/h limits, including The Hague, which last month added 110 streets to reach 35% coverage.
The prosecution department authorised the use of speed cameras after setting out the criteria for 30 km/h roads so drivers can recognise them, including the type of road surface and the use of dotted lines and coloured roadway to mark cycle lanes.
