Put a ring on it on the ring road: 400 want to be wed on the A10
Some 400 couples have registered to say “I do” on the A10 ring road on June 21 next year when traffic will be halted for a street party to celebrate Amsterdam’s 750th birthday, local broadcaster AT5 reports.
“There has been so much enthusiasm and that is great, but unfortunately we won’t be able to accommodate all couples. We will have to draw names out of a hat,” a spokesman for the capital’s local council said.
The ceremonies will be carried out free of charge, in Dutch as well as in English. The council will also provide a “festive location” for guests.
How many of the 400 applicants will get married on the A10 is not yet clear. “We need to give every couple enough time and make this a special moment for everyone,” the spokesman said. The lucky couples will know by January 31 if they will be tying the knot on the A10.
The council is also preparing a special place on the A10 for people who want to propose on the day.
The massive “circle party” is one of a string of events the city is planning to celebrate its anniversary. The celebrations kicked off on October 27, 2024 with a concert at the Ziggo Dome and continue until October 27, 2025 – when the city received its charter 750 years ago.
