Blokker’s new owner is a family relative and former CEO
The new owner of the Blokker household goods retail chain is a member of the Blokker family who was chief executive of the company between 2011 and 2015, according to the Telegraaf.
Roland Palmer has reportedly bought the name and the webshop and plans to relaunch the brand using the 45 franchisees.
Palmer’s mother is a sister of Jaap and Ab Blokker, who ran the company for years and had a career at Unilever, Coca-Cola and in consultancy before moving to the Dutch high street staple in 2009. He took over the helm there when Jaap died in 2011.
According to the Financieele Dagblad, Palmer had been keen to modernise the company but ran up against opposition from Ab and the supervisory board and was eased out in 2015.
The curators did not mention the name of the buyer in Monday’s press release but did say he aimed to build up the retail formula again.
Blokker went bust mid November with debts of some €93 million. The company had been founded in 1896.
