A grey Christmas ahead after eight days without sunshine

This year’s Christmas is set to be grey and green, with light rain and temperatures of up to 14° during the day, according to the latest forecast by Weeronline.

If the computer model plays out, this year’s Christmas will be extremely mild, with temperatures as high as 10° at night. In an average year, it would be close to 0°.

The warmest Christmas on record was in 2015 when it reached 14° at the De Bilt weather station, where official records are set.

There is, however, still a small chance that the temperature will be closer to normal for the time of year, Weeronline said.

The current grey skies mark the longest period without sunshine since 1993 – so far eight days of overcast weather with drizzle. There is a slight chance of some sun on Tuesday and Thursday, Weeronline says.

The record dates back to 1959 when there were 14 days straight without any sun.
