Railway disruption next week as ProRail workers strike over pay
Workers at ProRail, the infrastructure company that runs the Dutch railway network, will go on strike next week in support of their pay claim, trade union FNV said on Thursday.
The series of strikes, alternating between different network centres, will cause problems for travellers on a daily basis, the FNV said.
The first stoppage will take place on Monday, November 11 at the Kijfhoek centre near Dordrecht from 1 pm to 4 pm. Strikes will then follow on alternate days,
starting with the Amsterdam Alkmaar route on November 13 from 6 am to 9 am.
ProRail said it expected the strikes would cause problems over a wider area and there is a risk national services will also be disrupted.
The FNV has called for a 13% rise for ProRail workers, who take care of safety and maintenance issues on the network. ProRail, which is 100% owned by the government, has offered an average of 5.2%, with 7.9% for people on the lowest salaries.
The sector’s current pay and conditions agreement expired in July.
