There will be no trains in Noord-Holland and parts of Flevoland and Utrecht from 6 am to at least 9 am on Wednesday morning because of strike action by ProRail staff.

Although the strike will end at 9 am, it will take some time for normal services to resume, railway company NS said. The strike will also lead to fewer trains between  Utrecht and Arnhem, Utrecht and Eindhoven, and Rotterdam and Leiden.

Several international train services from Amsterdam to Brussels, London, Paris and Frankfurt have also been cancelled. Check NS International for details.

Travelers heading for Schiphol can take a direct train from Amsterdam’s main railway station to the airport every 15 minutes but are recommended to use an alternative mode of transport.

On Friday it will be the turn of the Utrecht and Amersfoort region and more strikes are scheduled for next week.

The FNV has called for a 13% rise for ProRail workers, who take care of safety and maintenance issues on the network. ProRail, which is 100% owned by the government, has offered an average of 5.2%, with 7.9% for people on the lowest salaries.

The sector’s current pay and conditions agreement expired in July.
